We love these egg books for kids!
This is the simplest, most darling children’s book about eggs that is perfect for preschool. Readers are introduced to four different colored eggs: pink, blue, purple, and green. Suddenly, three of the eggs begin to crack, and readers delight in the darling birds that hatch. But what about the green egg that isn’t cracking like the others? Is something wrong with it? It’s a mystery! Soon enough, the green egg does crack, and the baby birds are in for quite a surprise when they see what comes out from the shell. We love this story of patience, differences, and friendship.

Two young birds come across a polka dot ball, and they immediately mistake it for an egg. They both lay claim to it, and then, of course, they fight to take care of it. Ultimately, the birds end up climbing on top of their “egg” and begin to bond over how they will care for the baby inside. When a bluebird lets them know that the egg isn’t actually an egg at all but a ball instead, it is clear that duck and goose have created quite a strong bond. All of the birds have eggs to care for – all except Duck, that is! When Duck finally discovers an egg of her own, she is delighted, even when the other birds make fun of it. This wordless picture book is simply stunning! Told through photographs of dioramas, this is the story of Hank, an adorable animal, who discovers an egg that has fallen from a nest. Hank tries to return the egg to its nest but is unsuccessful. In the end, he brings the egg back to his campsite and cares for it during the night. The next day, Hank wraps the egg up carefully with moss and ribbon and offers it to a hummingbird nearby. The bird returns it to the nest, and Hank keeps watch nearby. While different from the other egg books on this list, this story is so wonderful (and one of my all-time favorites) that I had to include it! How do you get back up when you have been knocked down really, really hard? The fear can be crippling. But if you can muster up the courage to try again, the reward can be liberating. This wonderful story about what happens after Humpty Dumpty’s great fall is nothing short of exquisite. It is the story of how Humpty has become terrified of heights, unable to do the one thing he loves most. It is moving, poignant, and so emotionally resonant, and it is the perfect story to show how we can summon the courage to face our biggest fears. This is a book I actually keep in my own bedroom and reread often because it is incredibly powerful. See our full review HERE!
