Valentine’s Day books for kids celebrate love, sweet love
If I’m being honest, I’ll come right out and say that Valentine’s Day is not my favorite holiday. I’m a staunch believer that we should show the people we care about how much we love them each and every day.
That being said, there is something special about dedicating a day to showering my boys with extra hugs and kisses. Even better? Reading Valentine’s day books for kids. Not only do these stories show my boys how much I love them, but they are also a phenomenal way to segue into conversations about what it means to love and be loved.
Share Valentine’s Day children’s books on February 14th!

Simply put, any book that honors love in its purest form is fair game!
We love books about love that we can read, enjoy and contemplate all year round. Here are some of our favorite Valentine’s Day books for kids — the huggy kind, the kissy kind, and — our personal favorite — the love is love is love kind. Enjoy!

This is a tender story of a little boy navigating his first crush. Love is not about the trite things kids (or adults, for that matter!) think they should give someone to show their affection. Instead, it’s about those precious, unique ways we express ourselves which, when viewed through a little one’s eyes, become magical and meaningful, speaking louder than words or typical displays of adoration. This heartfelt book is so accessible to children, illustrating that love is composed of the tiny actions we take to show someone we care about how much they brighten our world. Oh, how I love this sweet picture book! Hugs can be felt even if they aren’t physical. How? Send them in a letter, of course! Thus, Artie shows us the magic that arises from sending a letter. Not an email, not a text, but an actual, handwritten letter. The result feels like a hug itself, knowing that words sent across the miles can make people feel as loved as when they are wrapped in a warm embrace. An absolute gem, and a perfect Valentine’s Day read!

This adorable rhyming book is the perfect Valentine’s Day book for kids! Using the old expression “I’ll love you till the cows come home,” the author infuses humor into a story that could otherwise become saccharine, introducing yaks in Cadillacs, trips from Mars and tap dancing deer, all to show that love has no bounds. With its message that love is eternal, this picture book packs a perfect punch with its rhythmic text and adorable illustrations.

This story perfectly conveys how actions are even more important than words when expressing our love for others. I absolutely love it! For one young girl, she feels her family’s love every day. She feels it in mom’s cooking, dad’s cheering at her soccer games, and when her parents tuck her in at bedtime. And she expresses her own love, too, when she massages her grandma’s feet and pours her grandpa’s tea. I adore this book for so many reasons, but especially because it’s a fantastic story to help children understand that our actions, from the very large to the teeny tiny, mean so much to those around us and truly do speak louder than words.
