Sometimes I love to read books to our boys just for the plain fun of it- for the escape a good story brings, for the magic that lies between the pages, and for the pure happiness I feel as I watch their tiny mouths open in wonder or squeal with excitement. Nibbles by Emma Yarlett is one of those books that I could read to Pickle and Bo over and over again because the story sparks joy in the purest of ways; it is a key that unlocks their imagination.
In this book, Nibbles the Book Monster has chomped his way out of his crate. The result? Chaos ensues as this adorably goofy rascal eats his way through many of your favorite fairy tales. Nibbles takes the reader on a mad chase through book after fabulously illustrated book, and giggling children delight in trying to keep this little monster from ruining any more stories before they can get him back to the crate where he belongs.
Though my boys admittedly did not yet understand all the literary references, it didn’t matter. They fell in love with the feisty monster, they marveled over the interactive pages (and books within books), and they had so much fun sticking their fingers inside the cutouts and lifting all of the flaps. The tiny details in this book are top notch, and Pickle couldn’t wait to turn the pages to find out what mischief Nibbles had gotten himself into. Simply put, this book is fabulous and Yarlett’s kid-friendly artwork is nothing short of fantastic. Get it, and I promise you this: your kids won’t be the only ones who have a blast chasing Nibbles through the fairy tales and out of the book.
