Meet Charlotte the Scientist, our Favorite Scientific Expert!
Calling all STEM lovers! Or, for that matter, calling any kid who loves science experiments (which basically means all kids, right?)
Charlotte the Scientist is Squished and Charlotte the Scientist Finds a Cure, written by Camille Andros and delightfully illustrated by Brianne Farley, are the perfect books for you. We are in love with these stories — and so thrilled with their leading lady rabbit and her big, big ideas!
Charlotte the Scientist is Squished and the Scientific Method
In Charlotte the Scientist is Squished, Charlotte is a scientist who loves to conduct experiments. And she doesn’t do them haphazardly- she always follows the scientific method to ensure she tackles her undertakings in the most thorough manner possible.
So just what is her problem?
Well, to put it simply, she’s squished. She lives in a home with lots of brothers and sisters, and she can’t seem to make any space for herself to practice being a real scientist.
So Charlotte does what she does best in an effort to reach a perfect conclusion: she painstakingly applies the scientific method to her problem.
We absolutely adore the way Charlotte the Scientist is Squished teaches kids an important process for experimentation that will grow with them as their own questions and hypotheses become more and more challenging. Andros takes a practical skill and applies it to her story adeptly, with such charm and spunk, that kids won’t even realize how much they are picking up as they read.
Charlotte the Scientist Finds a Cure and the Power of Perseverance
In Charlotte the Scientist Finds a Cure, Charlotte is dismayed to find that the forest animals are getting sick! What is causing their mysterious illnesses? Charlotte has some ideas, so she dives into serious science. Could Funky Forest Fungi be the problem?
When Charlotte tries to share her data with the doctors that arrive on the scene, however, they pay her — and her research — no attention. Charlotte is undeterred by the grownups, thus setting off to cure the animals on her own. And that she does, showing all that even our youngest scientists can make a difference.
Determination? Check! Grit? Check! Self esteem? CHECK! In Charlotte the Scientist Finds a Cure, we love the way Charlotte displays the exact same qualities we hope our children embody, from ingenuity to perseverance to being undeterred by naysayers and negativity.
What is the result of Andros and Farley’s collaboration? Two darling picture books sure to warm hearts, inspire curiosity and elicit lots and lots of giggles.
You just can’t beat books that are equal parts educational and adorable and will have kids laughing and learning at the same time. Two huge, enthusiastic trunks up for this series. We are crazy about Charlotte!
