Inside: Get ready guys, because Tiger Days: A Book of Feelings, is a fantastic book of feelings for your kiddos. We are in LOVE!
TIGER DAYS will help your kids connect with and understand their feelings.
Emotions are hard for adults to understand, let alone children.
One minute we feel like we’re walking on air, and nothing and no one can bring us down. The next? We’re on the floor crying, hit with a gut punch of sadness that came hurtling from behind the door like a freight train.
How on earth do you explain these wide ranging feelings to a kid? Is there a way to easily help them recognize that we can feel many different emotions on a given day, sometimes within mere moments?
As parents, we aim to teach kids that this complexity of emotions is not just ok, but universal and experienced by all. But it’s not always easy to know how to do this.
Enter TIGER DAYS: A BOOK OF FEELINGS, written by M.H. Clark and illustrated by Anna Hurley. TIGER DAYS is a fabulous new book for helping children understand their emotional makeup by relating emotions to a theme universally understood by children: animals.
Develop your child’s emotional intelligence with TIGER DAYS!
In TIGER DAYS, written by M.H. Clark and illustrated by Anna Hurley, kids are introduced to an array of common feelings they may have on any given day. Each emotion is embodied by a different animal and described in connection with actions taken by that animal. The book thus brilliantly explains how a child may feel and act when experiencing a particular feeling.
For example, anger is depicted as a “Bull Day,” one where you may stomp, yell and shout to let the angry feelings out.
Sadness is depicted as a “Fish Day,” one where you feel watery and full of tears.
Joy is depicted as a “Monkey Day,” one where you feel silly, ready to laugh and play.
I love the usage of animals to represent the wide range of feelings children may experience at a given moment. By labeling emotions with animals and their particular actions and behaviors, TiGER DAYS provides children with an accessible way to start giving their feelings the appropriate names, together with vocabulary they can use to express themselves to others.
TIGER DAYS is a book kids can really grab a hold of and sink their teeth into, one that will give them ownership of their feelings and help build their emotional intelligence. It provides children with a terrific tool box, so to speak. And here at HEE, we love toolboxes!
Moreover, TIGER DAYS beautifully showcases both positive and negative feelings, and it does so in a way that is as fresh and fun as it is non judgmental. And let’s not forget the impeccable rhyme- it’s got an awesome pattern, perfect meter, and thus makes for a darn good read aloud.
To say I adore TIGER DAYS is an understatement. I have so much fun sharing this one with my boys, and it has two huge trunks up from our whole team. If you love the ever popular IN MY HEART, TIGER DAYS makes for a perfect companion, tackling common emotions in a different, but totally awesome and engaging manner. I can’t wait to add it to my library curriculum at school!!
