The Dawn Society Tweens (5th-7th grades): January 2022

The Dawn Society is the first-of-its-kind virtual book club, connecting tweens around the country through the very best novels. Become a three-month member and discuss phenomenal books with your new friends!
Membership includes the following five Zoom sessions:

3. Book Club Discussion 2, ACROSS THE DESERT

Our virtual meetings will be held on Zoom. Please see the GROUPS AND DATES section below for the dates and times of the three different groups we are offering for tweens!
*Recommended for fifth through seventh grade readers, approximately 10-13 years old.
Our 3-Month Lineup
The books for our January membership kept us reading ’til dawn. Check out our phenomenal lineup – we couldn’t put these down!
THE TROUBLED GIRLS OF DRAGOMIR ACADEMY, by Anne Ursu: A captivating fantasy about magic, a mysterious school for wayward girls, and a young girl trying to figure out her place in the world.
ACROSS THE DESERT, by Dusti Bowling: A gripping novel about one girl’s trek across the desert in search of a fallen young pilot who has also become her only friend. Will she actually survive her journey? *Members will enjoy an exclusive webinar with author Dusti Bowling!
BEHIND BARS, by Padma Venkatraman: What is it like to be born in jail, then suddenly released without your mother who continues to live behind bars? This gripping fictional story set in India will stay with readers long after the last page.
*These books are recommended for fifth through seventh grade readers, approximately 10-13 years old.
What To Expect!
Membership in The Dawn Society will be limited to 20 tweens per group, allowing the members to connect, build relationships, and learn from one another.
Your three-month membership in The Dawn Society consists of five hour-long meetups:
- Intro “Meet the Members Session”;
- Book Club Discussion 1, THE TROUBLED GIRLS OF DRAGOMIR ACADEMY;
- Book Club Discussion 2, ACROSS THE DESERT;
- Exclusive webinar with ACROSS THE DESERT author, Dusti Bowling;
- Book Club Discussion 3, BORN BEHIND BARS.
Members will also receive The Dawn Society News and Notes prior to each book club discussion. Come discover an entire community of tweens who love reading and discussing amazing books!

The Dawn Society is the first-of-its-kind virtual tween book club, where we’ll talk about the books that keep us reading ’til dawn. We’ll come together once a month to connect and have fun discussing an awesome novel with other tween book lovers!
The Dawn Society is founded by Lauren Bercuson: elementary school librarian, mom of two boisterous boys, and the mastermind behind the prominent children’s literature blog, Happily Ever Elephants. Lauren will moderate each virtual session, ensuring a dynamic, fun, and safe space for all members.
