Wherever You Are My Love Will Find You, by Nancy Tillman

May 17, 2016 by Lauren Davis in pre-K (3-5), all, Love Your Bedtime

I dare you to read Nancy Tillman's Wherever You Are My Love Will Find You for the first time without crying. I have such a soft spot for this book! While many people know of Tillman's more popular story, On the Night You were Born (I got three copies as baby gifts when Pickle was born), Wherever You Are just speaks to me more. There is so much love inside these pages, and the message to the child being read to - that a parent's love will always be with you, wherever you go, however you grow, whether you have a good day or a bad day - is beautiful. The gorgeous and whimsical illustrations make turning every page an honest to goodness treat. I adore many of Tillman's stories, but this one truly sings. It is sweet without being saccharine, and the text has an almost melodic quality to it which can help lull children to sleep. Though I'll admit I may get a bit more from this book than my boys do, when we read it together before bed, snuggled on the glider, the lyrical words just seem to wrap us snugly in a safe, perfect hug. Can't ask for much more than that from a bedtime story.
