Giggles galore! I've been meaning to get Jules Feiffer's Bark, George for ages as I've heard about it for years but had never gotten my hands on it. Alas, I ordered it for our library at school, and the second I read it, I went online and ordered it for our house. It's short, repetitive, and-- to both children and adults-- gloriously goofy.
The story is simple. George is a puppy. His mom asks him to bark, but what does he do? He meows like a cat. And quacks like a duck. And moos like a cow. Will George ever get his bark back? Or will he be destined to speak the wrong language? A visit to the vet ensues- and the end result will leave you in stitches.
My boys aren't the only one that adore Bark, George - it cracks me up as well! It doesn't matter how frequently we read it, it never feels to make them squeal with laughter. For little ones, the animal sounds are terrific for speech development. For bigger kids, the simple story and repetition make it a perfect book for them to "read" aloud to parents or siblings. This is a delightful win-win that will have your kids barking, quacking and mooing around the house-- which admittedly may not make for the best bedtime story, but will certainly help to foster their love for books and reading. Two trunks up!
